This restaurant in Shoreditch/Bethnal Green - in Columbia Rd where they put the flower market on the Sundays - is quite popular as it's always full giving 2 or even 3 rounds of dinner on the weekends. The menu has a correct amount of choices so you won't go crazy trying to choose what you want, although it may have peculiar choices (duck hearts, veal brain, snails,...), so you could actually go crazy anyways.
The menu is changed almost every day, as the dishes are prepared with what is available in the market. This is a good sign as everything you get will be fresh, although on the down side you may be advised when you are accompanied to your table that some dishes are no longer available. The staff is really friendly as they have to explain the things that are not available, and really helpful - you will appreciate that to understand some of the mains.
If you go with the cold meats like the charcuterie or the foie gras you're definitely a winner. Those are really good. Also, we have had really good steak tartare, except for yesterday when they decided to mix it with anchovies - the chef argued that the recipe has it and I've been doing some research and some recipes have it and some don't; in my 30+ years it was the first time. With the mains you may have a bit of a shock depending on what is available, but trust your gut, the staff, and the dishes that you see flying around from the little open kitchen.
There is a long wine list with plenty of choices although most of them are French; if you are keen on French wine you will be happy; I'm not going to give my personal opinion on that...
